Step into a world of wonder as Tulsa’s most cherished holiday tradition returns to the stage! Since its dazzling 2021 premiere, Tulsa Ballet’s The Nutcracker has captivated audiences with its heart, magic, and sheer spectacle.

On a snowy Christmas Eve in 19th-century Germany, young Marie’s ordinary night transforms into an extraordinary adventure. A mysterious gift, a daring battle between the Nutcracker Prince and the wicked Mouse King, and a journey through sparkling kingdoms lead her to the enchanting realm of the Sugarplum Fairy.

Choreographed by Val Caniparoli and Ma Cong , this production seamlessly blends timeless elegance with Tulsa’s own flair, including a whimsical nod to the city’s beloved Golden Driller . The stage comes alive with breathtaking sets and costumes designed by Tracy Grant Lord , and every note is brought to life by the lush sound of the Tulsa Symphony Orchestra .

Overflowing with color, magic, and holiday spirit, The Nutcracker is more than a ballet, it’s a tradition your family will treasure for years to come.

PROLOGUE

It’s Christmastime in early nineteenth century Germany as Herr Drosselmeyer, an eccentric toymaker and inventor, reveals a magical gift box with the assistance of his nephew and his baby hawk protégées. The nephew and these helpers, who he is carefully schooling in all things mechanical and magical, deliver a small brass metal sled with a large magical key hand tooled by Herr Drosselmeyer himself. He places the key into the lock, and it starts to turn as our story unfolds….

Hope for the Holidays is a special event inviting clients of local social service agencies to attend a performance of Tulsa Ballet’s The Nutcracker free of charge. In addition to the performance, the evening includes photo opportunities with costume characters, cookies and juice, and a small gift. For many children in attendance, this will be their first experience with live ballet. It is truly a magical evening.

Each year, Hope for the Holidays costs Tulsa Ballet over $70,000 to produce. While the expense is significant, we realize how important it is for this special event to remain free for attendees. Therefore, we need your help! Donate to Hope for the Holidays today!
