COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Make-A-Wish Oklahoma is asking for help to grant wishes for children facing serious illnesses on April 29—World Wish Day—which will help lift their spirits and give them strength. Volunteers are encouraged to join the effort as the event aims to provide hope during challenging times.  FOX23

CRIME NEWS

  • A judge granted a habeas corpus hearing last week for April Rose Wilkens, 54, who was jailed almost 27 years for killing her former fiancé after her lawyers said her sentence is unlawful and the district attorney delayed her resentencing under the Oklahoma Survivors’ Act. Wilkens remains at Mabel Bassett Correctional Center while a supervised release hearing is pending.  KRMG News

CULTURE NEWS

  • Broken Arrow High School Theatre will present The Wizard of Oz live on stage from April 10–13 at the Broken Arrow Performing Arts Center. The production, directed by Jeremy Stevens and featuring nearly 100 students, will have performances on April 10–12 at 7:30 p.m. and on April 13 at 2:00 p.m.  Broken Arrow Public Schools

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Governor Kevin Stitt defended his decision to fire Oklahoma’s Forestry Director after last month’s wildfires that killed four and destroyed more than 500 homes, saying state officials failed to deploy all available resources. He promised sweeping changes to wildfire response and accountability for the state bureaucracy+ noting that he lost his ranch in the fires.  News On 6
  • Tulsa Fire Department’s Andy Little spoke Tuesday, April 8th about wildfires and tornadoes and urged residents to clear bushes and debris from near homes while making a safe plan for storms. He said calling 911 quickly and choosing a secure inside spot can keep families safe—steps that help reduce risks during severe weather.  News On 6

  • On April 8th, the Oklahoma Poison Center warned Broken Arrow residents that spring has raised the risk of snake bites, scorpion stings, and contact with toxic plants. The center urged people to avoid handling unknown snakes and to stay careful in areas with tall grass or fallen logs.  News On 6
