GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Broken Arrow fire department is testing a new tool called Firebane today to quickly put out lithium-ion battery fires from devices and electric vehicles. Early tests show it works better than water—officials plan to use it more if it keeps proving effective.  KJRH
  • Early voting for key legislative races and local propositions began on May 8 and continues today until 6 p.m. at county election boards; voters can choose candidates for Senate, House seats, and local tax measures while Election Day is set for May 13.  News On 6
  • Bob Mudd of VENU told the Broken Arrow City Council that modifying the under-construction amphitheater for year-round use has raised its price from $74 million to about $107 million—officials will review the updated figures before proceeding.  Tulsa World

HEALTH NEWS

  • On May 8th, 2025, first responders warned that leaving children in hot cars can lead to fatal heatstroke—cars can heat up 20 degrees in 10 minutes even with windows cracked. Officials stressed that more than half of these deaths happen when a child is accidentally forgotten and urged parents to always check the back seat.  News On 6
