  • Amie Mitchell, CEO of the BBB of Eastern Oklahoma, warned that cars caught in floodwater may soon enter the used market and urged buyers to check for rust & proper title information. She recommended independent inspections and vehicle history reports before purchase.  FOX23

CRIME NEWS

  • On Sunday afternoon in Broken Arrow, an officer stopped a vehicle in the Clarion Hotel parking lot at 4:15 p.m.—after a short pursuit and struggle when a white male fled and attempted to pull a gun, the officer fired three to four times, leaving the suspect dead while the officer sustained minor injuries and was placed on administrative assignment.  KTUL
  • A man is in serious condition after being shot by a Broken Arrow police officer during a traffic stop near Aspen Avenue when he tried to flee and reached for a weapon—authorities say the officer is on administrative leave as detectives review the evidence.  News On 6

CULTURE NEWS

  • Horrified, a horror-comedy film starring Julie Benz, began filming Monday, August 4th at the Stoney Creek Convention Center Hotel in Broken Arrow with over 550 local crew working on the project—its production is part of a new film incentive program that has drawn over $2 million in local investment and will continue for three weeks. This project is expected to boost local talent and Oklahoma’s film industry.  News On 6

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Oklahoma officials are reviewing bulletproof backpacks and strengthening school safety protocols—public schools must now follow new emergency operations plans and conduct six annual safety drills while training staff in active shooter procedures. Experts warn that while the backpacks may stop most handgun rounds, they do not protect against rifle fire, and Governor Stitt along with Superintendent Walters have committed $150 million to enhance security measures.  KTUL
  • Broken Arrow Public Schools announced a new bell schedule with earlier start and dismissal times for students ahead of the first day of class on August 13. The schedule sets elementary classes from 8:45 a.m.—3:30 p.m., middle school from 8:15 a.m.—3:03 p.m., and high school from 7:43 a.m.—2:30 p.m.  News On 6

  • The U.S. Department of Justice asked for voter registration records from Oklahoma and other states on August 4th to boost federal election law enforcement. State officials have raised privacy concerns and have not yet said how they will respond as they weigh federal oversight with state control ahead of the 2026 midterms.  News On 6
