  • Female firefighters from across Green Country released their eighth annual calendar and held a silent auction on August 14 to raise funds for pediatric cancer care and programs for women in the fire service, Kendall Taylor said. They will host a firefighter camp in Tahlequah for girls 16 and older in October—aiming to inspire future careers in the fire service.  News On 6

CRIME NEWS

  • Broken Arrow police are urging drivers to slow down and focus on the road in school zones as students return to school. Officer Stanton said drivers should put their cell phones down and drive carefully—since speeding and distracted driving raise the risk of accidents and fines start at $105.  KTUL

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Broken Arrow Superintendent Chuck Perry said more than 20,000 students returned to school on Wednesday in new classrooms—including a new 8th Grade Academy—and additional elementary spaces that were built over the summer. He added the district will support both academics and student nutrition to ensure a smooth start to the school year.  News On 6

  • A federal court vacated the listing of the lesser prairie chicken as endangered species because the Fish and Wildlife Service made a foundational error—this ruling removes federal restrictions on cattle grazing, energy pipeline projects and more, and Oklahoma Attorney General Gentner Drummond called it a victory for local farmers and producers.  KRMG News
