Spectators are invited to watch the flights while pilots from local and neighboring states must have an Academy of Model Aeronautics membership and pay a $20 landing fee—ensuring a safe and organized display. - ➤ On Friday, funeral services and a procession were held for Broken Arrow police recruit Franklin David Leinen, a 40-year-old Army veteran, husband and father who passed away last month during physical training after a medical emergency. - ➤ On October 2, Governor Kevin Stitt announced a turnaround team of seven education experts to improve transparency at the state board. The group includes Connie Reilly from the office of Educational Quality and Accountability, Kristin Stephens of Tulsa Public Schools, Broken Arrow Public Schools communications chief Tera Thompson, Metro Tech’s Romex Muex-Pullen, former education secretary Nellie Sanders, OU professor Dan Hamlin, and his chief Tom Newell—this move aims to revamp the board. ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Oklahoma biologists captured and banded Canada geese during their summer molt to track migration patterns, monitor population trends, and support wildlife management—an effort coordinated with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Oklahoma Department of Transportation hired Boomer Environmental for a rapid cleanup of homeless camps during Operation SAFE and billed $545,680 for a two-week project — including over $93,000 in travel charges despite having contractors closer by. The contract, renewed since 2021, shows steep increases in tractor-trailer rental fees and long workdays for the cleanup staff. KJRH
- ➤ Governor Kevin Stitt announced that departing board members Zach Archer and Sarah Lepak have been replaced by Brian Bobek and Wes Nofire on the State Board of Education. Bobek directs the Governor's Office of Faith-Based and Community Initiatives and Nofire, a former Native American liaison, joins the board to support its focus on transparency, accountability and excellence—key priorities for education.
